課程目標 |
This course is designed to probe into the intricate relation between infantile experience and the formation of the (sexed) subject. What is the impact of infantile experience on emotional development? If an apparent childhood memory is not necessarily a memory of a real event, how is it, as a derivative of fantasy, related to the development of one’s personality? What is the interplay between conscious and unconscious fantasy fabricated during the early period? In what way will the mechanisms of defense employed in early years influence the subject? Do daydreaming and play, so central to children’s daily life, signal for adults nothing but regression? Or is it more likely that the child and the adult are free to be creative and to discover their individual self only in playing? To answer these questions, the first two sections of this course (1. Childhood fantasy and the theory of children's sexuality, 2. The formation of the ego) will familiarize students with psychoanalytic theory concerning infantile fantasy and defensive operations common in childhood. To bring different theorists' thoughts into dialogue, the third section (The function of play) includes two invited speeches and also readings concerning how Benjamin and Agamben conceptualize childhood experience.
